Been quite a while since we’ve seen a BlackBerry App World update. Guess RIM thought it was time for one. No idea what may or may not have been fixed in this release folks but if we happen to get a change log we’ll add to the post.

RIM showed the world the upcoming WebKit BlackBerry browser at the Mobile World Congress today.

The Black Eyed Peas have taken over the BlackBerry homepage . The homepage refresh is all part of the sponsorship Research In Motion has taken on to promote the BlackBerry brand alongside the Black Eyed Peas. Not really a surprise since Will.I.Am has been a big part of BlackBerry promotions in the past as well as appearing at WES 2009.

If you’re a hardcore Craiglist user and a BlackBerry fan you’ll be happy to know that the craiglist mobile app for BlackBerry was finally approved into App World today (we first caught a glimpse of it back in November - check out that post for video). This full-featured app is the “official craigslist app” and was built for craigslist by Movela/Pyxis Mobile

  WhatsApp has been available for the iPhone for quite some time, but it is just now making its way to BlackBerry as well. The app is still in the (very) early stages, so the UI and features leave a bit to be desired, but WhatsApp is delivering free smarthphone-to-smartphone messaging. What this means is that you will be able to send messages to all of your iPhone toting buddies for free.

The music identification program that is Shazam has been available for a while now. But, their latest premium offering, Shazam Encore is a new addtion to their line up. When it was announced I was kind of left wondering what exactly was in Encore that was not available in the other versions

With Verizon set to roll out its app store , you have to wonder about the fate of App World. I’m not positive about the exact numbers, but I’ve heard from people in the industry that Verizon customers make up a huge proportion, we’re talking 80-90% of App World’s user base. Verizon’s Ryan Hughes, VP Partner Management, said in an interview that the Verizon app store will be the sole marketplace on devices sold by the company, meaning there is no hope for App World ever coming preloaded
