Yesterday, Boy Genius dropped some whispers hinting that the long awaited OS 5.0 update for the BlackBerry Tour 9630 was coming in the next 2-3 weeks and that it was also bringing a new Push To Talk feature. As it turns out, the files needed for that new data plan using push to talk features has been turning up in the past two OS leaks for Tour owners. And from info gathered in the forums, Verizon is seemingly not really trying hard to hide it from end users either

Since the rest of the smartphone world also got a Foursquare app update, it doesn’t really come as a surprise the BlackBerry version got bumped to version 1.7. As SXSW gets set to kick off in Austin, Texas, Foursquare and its location based counterpart Gowalla have kind of been in heated battle for the attention of users in attendance. It’ll be a bloody badge showdown for sure

Been quite a while since we’ve seen a BlackBerry App World update. Guess RIM thought it was time for one. No idea what may or may not have been fixed in this release folks but if we happen to get a change log we’ll add to the post.

The folks at Swoosh Software let us know over the weekend they just released a new app for BlackBerry Smartphones that’s both useful and fun to use. SwooshContacts automatically ranks your contacts based on activity making it quick to contact the folks you deal with most, letting you discover who is most important in your life (hopefully it’s your significant other at the top by default, but if not you can at least favorite them to that position!).

Back in August we first checked out Fancy Characters , an app that lets you easily add symbols into messages. Sergey let me know that the app has been updated to version 2.0 and includes some cool new icons . With the app, you can add symbols to email, SMS, IM, PIN and BBM messages.

We had the pleasure of announcing the beta testing phase for VersaTool not too long ago. Now VersaTool has reached the point where it’s waiting for acceptance into BlackBerry App World.

Here’s one for the books - the MLB.com At Bat 2010 is now available, but it appears that its only for the Storm. A pleasant turn of events for Storm users, we QWERTY carriers are seemingly out of luck on this one (its odd to see the situation swapped and have an app that IS available for the Storm, and not for anyone else)
